Revision of NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Policy Directive
The NSW DoH is seeking comment on a draft NSW Health policy directive: Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases. Please note that the closing date for comments is Friday 10, July 2009 (not 19 June as specified in the attached document).
Chronic Disease
The QLD parliament is undertaking an inquiry into the impact of chronic diseases on Queensland communities and the steps that can be taken to reduce the incidence of chronic disease in our communities. More detail is available from Karen Steadman. Please forward input (whether QLD specific or not) to Karen by Monday 13, July 2009.
Second Edition Practice Accreditation Standards for the Diagnostic Imaging & Accreditation Scheme
Do you have any comments on the "Entry Level Standards", especially the wording changes and the 9 Proposed Additional Standards. How will the Standards impact on clinical practice and the operation of clinics and practices which provide diagnostic imaging services? How might the transitory arrangements for accreditation impact on clinical practice and the operation of clinics and practices which provide diagnostic imaging services?

- Do you currently offer your patients who have paid an account the opportunity to claim the Medicare rebate from your surgery using Medicare online or Medicare easyclaim? (Yes/No)
- If the answer is yes: Do you have any suggestions to Medicare that may improve your experience or your patients' experience?
- If the answer is no: Is there is anything Medicare can do to assist you to provide this service to your patients?
- In your opinion, has electronic patient claiming (when available) become recognised as an advancement in providing better pattient service? And has it become a service that patients now expect?

Health Informatics Workforce Scoping Survey
HISA and DoHA are seeking a better understanding of the health informatics workforce in Australia. While there has been previous work on education in health informatics, this is the first time we are aware of that a study has been undertaken to characterise the jobs of those who work in the field.

The National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission (NHHRC) has released a background paper - The Australian Health Care System: The potential for efficiency gains. The paper reviews the available literature on the efficiency of the Australian health care system and the potential areas where efficiency gains might be made.
The Government has launched the National Sexually Transmissible Infections Prevention Program. The resource kit is available below.

The theme of the conference ‘ Intersections and Transitions’ emphasises the need for collaboration in the care of patients and to note transitions in the patient’s health journey e.g. living with chronic illness, moving to palliative care, living with disability.
