Tuckometer Report

The countdown to the 2011 Sydney Carnival begins in earnest this Saturday at Royal Randwick. Three Group 2 races headline the day's racing at which many of the runners will be racing "First Up". The Group 2 Breeders Classic for Mares will see the return of nominal Doncaster favourite More Joyous whilst other entries include Group 1 winners Melito, Sacred Choice and the Group 1 placed Beaded. The Light Fingers Stakes for Three Year Old fillies will see the return of Flight Stakes victor Secret Admirer who will clash with the placegetters from that race being More Strawberries and Parables. This race is the 1st Leg of the Patinack Series whereby the connections of the winning filly are in line for a $1m bonus if they can win two other races in the series. The Royal Sovereign Stakes for the Three year Old Colts & Geldings has also drawn a field of quality nominations including Beneteau, Ilovethiscity, Masquerader, Pressday & Skilled.

Other feature events on the day are the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes, the Listed Canonbury Stakes and Listed Widden Stakes.

Shayne Montgomery - Horses to Follow

Shayne Montgomery - Horses to Follow

RED TRACER now needs no introduction after that dominant display in late January here at Royal Randwick when she was resuming from a spell. Whilst it is without doubt that the winning margin over the Peter Snowden trained CLASSICS was inflated after the runner up encountered traffic problems in transit, Red Tracer still stamped herself as a filly to follow.

SANDBERG is one to take note of. He is trained out at Warwick Farm by Guy Walter. He resumed from his spell here at Royal Randwick on that same late January afternoon as Red Tracer and although Sandberg failed to fill a placing in the last race on the card, he did do enough to suggest that once stepped up in distance and with kilometers in his legs, he’ll be hard to hold out.

SATIN SHOES is in the same boat as Sandberg in as much as that they are both trained at Warwick Farm. There, the similarity ends. Satin Shoes is a two year old trained by Clarry Conners and she very much looked the part at a recent set of barrier trials conducted at Rosehill. She won here when on debut back in October and she appears well placed to maintain her unbeaten status when next produced.

Senior Members Annual Luncheon

Senior Members Annual Luncheon

It was our privilege to entertain our 50 year continuous Members and their guests in the Board Dining Room on Saturday 29 January.

Twenty two of these Members were with us, amongst these was our oldest serving Member Mr Max Buchanan, who joined the Club in 1949 and 7 new "boys".    Pictured here are the gentlemen together with Julia Ritchie and John Cornish.

This is a very special luncheon and it is wonderful for these gentlemen to get together and renew old friendships.  Well done.
