The Group 1 Turnpoint Guineas is the feature event on Day 2 of the Liverpool Festival of Racing this Saturday at Warwick Farm. Hobartville Stakes winner Ilovethiscity will be attempting to reinforce his Doncaster Mile prospects in a quality field that includes Skilled, Retrieve, Pressday and Masquerader.

The Two Year Olds take their next step down the Golden Slipper path with the Group 3 Skyline Stakes for Colts & Geldings and the Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes for Fillies, in which the unbeaten Karuta Queen is an acceptor. Patrons at Warwick Farm will also have the opportunity to witness Satin Shoes go through her paces in an Exhibition Gallop with stablemate Georgette Silk after Race 3.

There were 88 1st acceptors for Doncaster Mile when they were taken on Tuesday. The 1st acceptors contain the last three winners of the race being Triple Honour, Vision and Power and Rangirangdoo plus current favourites More Joyous and Whobegotyou. It is shaping up for some exciting racing in the weeks ahead.
 

Shayne Montgomery - Horses to Follow

FOXWEDGE In what turned into a match race in both the betting ring and out on the track, he showed his superiority over the filly Anise when the pressure was applied at Warwick Farm last weekend in what was an excellent return from a spell. This Royal Randwick trained youngster looks set to play a significant part in the major two year old races ahead of us.

TROMSO He was resuming from a spell at Warwick Farm last Saturday when he was a noticeable drifter in the betting ring. That failed to stop him from hitting the line strongly over the concluding stages and he can improve second up. Expect his Rosehill based trainer Chris Waller to find the right race for him in the not too distant future. Tromso has always been in the spotlight in a brief career to date but this could be the campaign where he really stands up.

UATE His debut win around his home track, Newcastle, was full of merit, he raced wide without cover for the duration. He then took the next step over 1150m on the Kensington track at a recent midweek fixture when he again scored with authority. At this time of year, the opposition only gets tougher but this Kris Lees trained galloper certainly has a future.

Young Members

Last Thursday, the ATC in conjunction with the ‘Young Members Advisory Council’ (YMAC) with Danielle Denham as YMAC Chairperson staged its inaugural Sydney Carnival Beauty and Fashion Preview at David Jones, Elizabeth Street Store.

Hosted by Ben Damon, ATC Ambassador, CLEO Bachelor and TV Presenter, Young Members were later welcomed by ATC’s Executive General Manager for Commercial Business, Fraser Neill who thanked the social crowd for their support of these exciting events and promised to deliver a vibrant Sydney Carnival 2011. “Young Members should look forward to an outstanding Sydney Carnival with quality group one thoroughbred racing and a great line-up of entertainment and fashion over the three days at Royal Randwick commencing with the 150 years of the AJC Derby on Saturday 9th April”, said Mr Neill.

“I am so pleased the event was a success. Young Members and their guests enjoyed the evening and one of the highlights was every guest received a well stocked Elizabeth Arden gift bag” said Ms Denham.

Guests were also treated to Domain Chandon, superb award-winning catering provided by Royal Randwick and hair and beauty tips from National Makeup Artist for Elizabeth Arden, Stephen Gaskett.

Member Events

All sorts of events happening leading into Carnival, starting with the Racing Fraternity Mass on Sunday 13 March. 

Morning tea will be served after the Mass, so come along and enjoy the morning.

Carbine Club Luncheon

The emphasis at this year's Carbine Club Racing Luncheon will be on sending you home with the winner of the next day's AAMI Golden Slipper and the other Group 1 races on the next day's card.

Ada Lynch.   Whilst Ada was not a member, she was involved in the racing industry for many years and up until her retirement 8 years ago was still making Racing Silks.  Ada was 85 and in her younger years was also a strapper in the Mascot era.  Rest in peace Ada.
