From the manager's desk.. |
Welcome to autumn! Summer may have been unpredictable weather but the region has experienced the busiest on record.
There was the completion of the Grand Pacific Drive integrated marketing and promotional campaign, the launch of the South Coast Campaign on February 11 and Wollongong Conference & Events attended AIME in Melbourne on February 19-20, where we represented the city with huge success.
This month, we’re all excited about the opening of the region’s newest tourist attraction, the Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk which will boost our appeal to both domestic and international visitors.
Remember by working together we can get results!
Until next month,
Greg Binskin – General Manager

Grand Pacific Drive and South Coast campaigns |
Last month saw the completion of The Grand Pacific Drive integrated marketing and promotional campaign and the start of the South Coast campaign.
The GPD campaign was a huge success. Not only did it boost visitor numbers throughout the region, but the new website attracted a huge response – including a boost in “hits” during the campaign period.
Meanwhile, the new South Coast campaign was launched by NSW Minister for Tourism, Matt Brown on February 11. Comprising television and print exposure throughout Sydney, regional NSW, Southern regions and Canberra, the campaign is the result of a partnership with Tourism NSW, South Coast Tourism and the region’s tourism operators.
For more information on the campaign refer to website.

Illawarra Fly set to open |
The region’s newest attraction, Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk, is set to open this month.
An elevated steel canopy walk through the rainforest on the Illawarra escarpment, the Illawarra Fly offers spectacular views over the region.
Nestled among the temperate rainforest, the treetop walk will take visitors along the picturesque Illawarra escarpment and offers inspiring views over the South Pacific Ocean. It is 500 metres long, 25 metres high and is suitable for visitors of all mobilities.
The new attraction also provides something for the thrill seekers. A 45 metre high lookout is ascended via a spiral stairway offering panoramic views of the rainforest.
At the edge, a springboard cantilevers bounces gently, just to provide that extra touch of excitement.
Tourism Wollongong look forward to working closely with the Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk.

ATEC getting FAMILiar with region |
The South Coast hosted a major ATEC famil last month, welcoming a group of key inbound tour operators.
Skydiving, Harley Davidson rides and dolphin watching were among the highlights of a visit by inbound tour operators (ITOs) to the South Coast, as part of ATEC’s Mega Famil.
The famil was a great opportunity to showcase the region’s products to the agents who play an integral part of the distribution chain to attract international visitors to the region.

Wollongong showcased at trade/consumer shows |
Tourism Wollongong spent much of February spreading the word about Wollongong and Grand Pacific Drive at various trade and consumer shows.
Tourism Wollongong's conference team - Lauren Mansell and Vera Cvetkoski – travelled to Melbourne last month to promote the region as a business tourism destination at the Asia Pacific’s major trade event for the meetings and incentives industry, AIME.
Wollongong was also showcased at the Wagga and Albury Caravan and Camping Shows on 2-3 February.
A huge response was received for Wollongong and Grand Pacific Drive and the team will be working hard to maintain momentum.
