Become a part of history

Become a part of history

Australia Day 2009 marks the start of a three year campaign in which the Australia Day Council of New South Wales will engage a variety of Australians to explore our national identity and culture.

The aim is to capture the sense of who we are and encourage discussion in the community about Australian values in a variety of interesting ways.

Firstly, we are calling for opinion pieces from a diverse range of people living here and overseas on how we see ourselves. We want people to be as creative, fun or serious as they like and will eventually form part of a social history collection.

Keep a look out for a cheeky interactive campaign soon to be launched that we anticipate will generate much excitement. It will have everyone checking out entries online and voting for their favourite versions.

It’s an exciting new approach for Australia Day and hope you will join us in the fun. Visit our website towards the end of the month to learn more.

Australia Day 2009 Address

There are many interesting and high achieving Australians who would deliver thought provoking views on who we are as Australians and where we are heading as a nation. Who do you think should deliver the Australia Day 2009 Address and why.

We want you to take part .....

We want you to take part .....

... to be Australia Day volunteers.

Each year, Australia Day events in the city are delivered with the assistance of over a hundred volunteers who give up their time to ensure everyone has a great day.

You will be helping us co-ordinate Australia Day activities by managing information booths in the city, giving directions, recommending events and providing advice. If this sounds like you, please send your details through on AustraliaDay@dpc.nsw.gov.au

Sydney's Biggest Backyard

Sydney's Biggest Backyard

For many, celebrating Australia Day doesn’t get much better than getting together with mates to relax and enjoy a BBQ. Once again, Sydney’s Hyde Park will become Australia’s biggest backyard, with the Great Aussie BBQ being a major focal point.

With something for everyone, the park becomes a centrepiece for activity, entertainment, wine sampling and relaxation as some 400,000 Sydneysiders flow into the city and harbour precincts to participate in Australia Day celebrations.

Given the phenomenal community participation, it is not surprising that significant opportunities exist for organisations to benefit though extensive brand and product exposure – and gain a significant point of difference from the competition.

For further information about Sampling in Hyde Park or Sponsorship of the Great Aussie BBQ, please contact our Corporate Strategy team on 02 9513 2000 or visit the Australia Day website.
