The AJC Heritage Society
|
We are proud to announce that the previously know “AJC Archive Project Team” has been christened with the official name, “The AJC Heritage Society”. This name was suggested by the volunteers who have worked tirelessly on the project since its inception just 3 weeks ago.
In that 3 weeks the volunteers pulled together, at short notice, to work on the memorabilia exhibition showcasing 150 years of racing history at Randwick. The display was a huge success, and we estimated that approximately 2500 racegoers came through the doors of the Tea House last Saturday. The volunteers were on hand to field questions about the exhibit.
The display attracted positive media coverage, Daniel Lewis from the Sydney Morning Herald turned in a two page spread in Sunday’s newspaper extolling the success of the exhibit and his interviews with the AJC Heritage Society Volunteers who shared anecdotal stories of their racing connections.
The AJC Heritage Society meet at the AJC Admin offices every Wednesday, if you wish to become a Volunteer, or if you have a donation for future exhibits please contact Anne Simic on (9663 8559) or email
Our next project is to record for posterity and future generations, all of your great personal racing stories and your first hand record of racing history. One of our greatest untapped resources is the great racing stories which you, our members, hold dear.
If you have a suggestion for the Oral History Project, contact Julia Ritchie on (0407 234 933) or email

Party Time
|

The weather did dampen the 150 Anniversary of Racing at Royal Randwick party on 29 May however, those who did brave the elements were rewarded with a fascinating exhibition of memorabilia showcasing 150 years of racing history at Randwick AND a slice of this wonderful celebration cake.
Look forward to more celebrations in the season ahead, it promises to be a good year.

The Tuckometer Report
|
The final "Black Type" race run by the club for the 2009/10 season will be held this Saturday with the Listed June Stakes.
The $100,000 1100m sprint has attracted a strong list of entries with last start Randwick winner Love Conquers All sure to be challenging for favouritism along with Youthful Jack from the Allan Denham Stable and Pinwheel and Posadas from the Peter Snowden yard.
Another interesting runner will be former Western Australia galloper Hay List who was scratched from his initial NSW engagement at Randwick on 29 May due to the Heavy track reading. Hay List has won 8 of his 9 starts in Western Australia and is now with John McNair, himself a former WA trainer.
Racecourse Manager Dave Hodgson is pleased to see the weather forecast is positive leading into Saturday and the rail will be out 4m from the 1600m point to the Winning Post.
Racing continues at Randwick on Monday with the meeting to be held on the Kensington Track and the P J Bell Country Championship the feature event on the programme

Shayne Montgomery's Horses to Follow

DEMANDING MISS
. A two year old filly who has found her way to Sydney in a possible attempt to dodge the higher class Winter Carnival races on offer in Brisbane, her home ground. She was most unlucky to lose over 1400m at a recent Saturday fixture. On the day the track condition was Heavy and she is by a noted wet track sire, Commands, but her form card reads well on firm ground as well. There is a win in her very soon.
TRIPLE ELEGANCE was first up from a spell when he recently scored in restricted class over 1200m at a Saturday fixture when he started at healthy odds on the day after closing strongly from well back, albeit in only a small field. He is only a lightly raced three year old who has his best performances still well in front of him and he is already proven at distances up to 1550m. Look for him to build on this most promising first up return.
BRASILEIRA. Expect leading trainer Peter Snowden to suitably place this very lightly raced four year old mare in the time ahead. She resumed from her spell on a Heavy track at a recent Saturday fixture over 1200m when she traveled in a handy spot but without cover, settling down outside the eventual winner, Black Routine. Whilst the winner kicked away from her early in the home straight, this mare did stick to her task gamely.
