From the manager's desk... |
It’s getting fresh in the Illawarra but the cooler temps aren’t keeping us indoors – there’s plenty going on that’s worth rugging up and heading out for, especially on Sunday May 11 - Mother's Day.
It was great to catch up with everyone at the recent ‘Talking Tourism’ function at the Medina Executive Wollongong on April 9. A huge turnout and if the vibe is a measure of where tourism in the region is heading, its going to be exciting positive times ahead.
Tourism Wollongong continues to push Grand Pacific Drive out into the domestic and international markets. With the ATDP Federal Government funding near completion, you will start to see the roll out of the directional and interpretive signage along the route.
Enjoy the news,
Greg Binskin

South Coast Tourism Awards |
Last year Illawarra Tourism merged with South Coast creating a mega regional tourism body to market the destination. With this came the amalgamation of the regional tourism awards which will now be known as the South Coast Tourism Awards and will cover the whole South Coast from Wollongong to Eden, increasing competition and the desire to win even greater.
This year the awards will mirror the NSW state awards in their entirety, i.e. the South Coast Awards will have the same categories, same criteria and the same judging process as the state awards. This will give winners of the South Coast Tourism Awards automatic entry into the state awards as a finalist. Entries close on Friday May 30, 2008.
Entries for the awards are now open, criteria and information can be found on the South Coast website or contact Vera Cvetkoski or Kate Chapman for more information.

Opening of Best Western Wollongong |
Our burgeoning tourism market welcomed the opening of Best Western Wollongong, the regions seventh international standard hotel.
Situated in the heart of the CBD, Best Western Wollongong is in close proximity to Crown Street Mall, Wollongong railway station and Wollongong Hospital.
Featuring 54 beautifully appointed 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, the opening of this prestige establishment on April 17th was most welcome and we wish their team every success in the future.
