Gong Xi Fa Cai! Happy Chinese New Year to all.

The warm summer weather has really boosted visitation from Sydney, Canberra, Regional NSW enjoying our coastline lifestyle. Australia Day was a day of community engagement with a wash of smiles along the newly developed Belmore Basin, complete with an amazing fireworks display. It was also great to see local support for the Illawarra Aquathon, kicking off early Monday morning with a record 1,500 participants. 

February is planning to be a busy month ahead with the 2009 NSW Junior State Cup, the Mundine vs. Taylor Title Fight and not to forget Valentine's Day. 

In closing a note of thanks to two big supporters of Tourism Wollongong, Peter Pederson from the Illawarra Regional Development Board and Mark Grimson from the Illawarra Business Chamber who have decided to further their career in different fields. We wish them the best!

Congratulations to Curt Warren

Curt Warren of Warren Windsports won the 21st Bogong Cup held in Mt. Beauty, Victoria. This year’s event attracted hang gliding pilots from Austria, Germany, USA, Switzerland, Russia, Holland, Spain, Japan, and Australia.

Curt's first-place result will strengthen his position and fight for the Australian hang gliding team, where the five top-Aussies travel to France in June for the World Championships.

Well Done Curt and good luck for the upcoming World Championships.

A busy summer for the Tourism Wollongong team

2009 is already proving to be busy year for us as on the domestic and international front. During the month of January, the team welcomed four self drive groups totalling nearly 90 visitors from the Sichuan province of China. In addition, we also welcomed visitors to the Illawarra Folk Festival and attended two regional consumer shows; the Wagga Wagga and Albury Regional Travel Shows.

GPD Summer Campaign a success

The integrated campaign for Grand Pacific Drive was certainly a success with the most aggressive activity over the January school holiday period. There was a series of scheduled print, television and online pieces directed towards the markets of Sydney and Canberra. The campaign also incorporated promotions with Wotif.com and Westlink M7 in co-operation with Jamberoo Action Park.
