From the manager's desk.. |
Greetings from Tourism Wollongong!
The recent burst of warm weather boosted visitor enquiries and numbers at the Visitor Information Centre seeking to explore Grand Pacific Drive and region, another sign the region’s a perfect year round holiday destination!
The month of May was busy for Wollongong with many famils and expos including the very successful visit by leading coach company, APT (Australian Pacific Touring) - the highlight. And following on from the strong regional presence at the Australian Events Expo at the Sydney Exhibition Centre in May, we’ll be off selling the Grand Pacific Drive message at the Australian Tourism Exchange in Perth this month.
It’s whale season! Get out the picnic rug (and a warm jumper!) and head to the many coastal lookouts to spot these majestic creatures on their migration journey. For more information about getting up close and personal with whales contact MV Signa in Kiama or Dolphin Watch Cruises in Jervis Bay.
Enjoy the news,
Greg Binskin
General Manager

Grand Pacific Drive to be showcased at ATE |
We will attend the Australian Tourism Exchange at the Perth Convention Centre from June 14 to 20. This is Australia’s premier tourism trade event and the largest international trade show of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
The exchange runs two distinct market based programs. The Eastern module targets the Asian markets while the Western module is targeted toward buyers from the UK, Europe, the Americas, the Gulf countries, New Zealand and the South Pacific. We will be showcasing new products added to Grand Pacific Drive, including hotels and the Illawarra Fly Tree Top Walk to maximize exposure to buyers and agents from all over the world.
For more information on the Australian Tourism Exchange refer to the ATE website.

World Youth Day (WYD) 2008 |
World Youth Day is one of the most significant events to be hosted in Australia in recent years – and it’s fast approaching! Some predictions say it will attract even more people than the Sydney Olympics.
As part of the celebrations in the lead up to the main WYD08 event, the diocese of Wollongong will welcome around 5000 young people from all around the world in a cultural exchange. The ‘Days in the Dioceses’ event will take place from the 9 to 14 July. Visiting pilgrims will be hosted by local families and given the opportunity to experience life in the Illawarra before heading to Sydney for the World Youth Day activities.
For more information about Days in the Dioceses or World Youth Day please refer to the Wollongong Diocese website.
