2008 Spring Carnival Begins 27 September at Royal Randwick |
|
The first Group 1 event in NSW for the 2008/09 season will be held this Saturday at the opening of the Royal Randwick Spring Carnival with the running of the Weight For Age Tabcorp George Main Stakes. Many of the starters will be having their final lead up to next week’s Arrowfield Stud Epsom Handicap including Triple Honour, Niconero and Gallant Tess whilst Duporth will be attempting to be the first 3YOld to win the race since Viscount in 2001.
Other feature races on Saturday’s programme include the Group 2 Arrowfield Stud Stan Fox Stakes for Three Year Olds, the Group 3 Bill Ritchie Handicap in which the unbeaten Kiloton will attempt to win his 5th race and also force his way into the Arrowfield Stud Epsom Handicap, and the Group 3 Mc Grath Colin Stephen Quality.
The carnival continues on Arrowfield Stud Super Saturday 4 October with not only the running of 4 Group 1 events but the NSW Breeders Plate and Keeneland Gimcrack Stakes for the 2YOld Colts & Geldings and Fillies respectively.

All members are advised that 2007/08 cards are no longer active. These cards will no longer allow you access to the race course and you will be required to pay course entry should you present them at the gates.

The AJC has secured an exclusive opportunity for members to have their photograph taken with the Melbourne Cup! The famous trophy is currently on the 2008 Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour and will visit Royal Randwick on Thursday 2 October. John Letts, who rode two Melbourne Cup winners during his career, will be on hand to share stories of his successful rides. Members wishing to have their photograph taken have an exclusive window of opportunity from 2.30pm- 3.30pm on Thursday 2 October in the Members Enclosure at Royal Randwick.

AJC Convention Centre - NSW/ACT Caterer of the Year
The Australian Jockey Club (AJC) Convention Centre was awarded the highly prestigious ‘Caterer of the Year’ accolade at the annual Restaurant and Catering NSW/ACT 2008 Awards for Excellence held on the evening of Monday 15th September 2008.
The Caterer of the Year is awarded to the establishment that has scored the highest marks overall across a range of categories including food quality, service and customer satisfaction as determined by the panel of judges. The AJC will now go on to represent NSW/ACT in the National Awards for Excellence to be held in Brisbane at the end of October.
In addition the AJC Convention Centre was the winner of the Function/Convention Centre Caterer Award for the Carbine Club Luncheon.
