Already blessed with an enviable location between golden sandy beaches and a castle-like escarpment, Wollongong is wasting no time establishing credentials as a first class meetings and incentive destination.
A two-year building boom has increased our hotel room stock by some 400 rooms and a range of new meetings venues either right on the beachfront or within an easy walk.
- the region’s third Accor hotel with the opening last year of the Grand Mercure Kiama Blue offering 87 rooms and three meetings rooms catering for up to 120 theatre style and 90 banquet style in the town’s original 1889-built schoolhouse.
- the new Medina Executive Wollongong offering 71 stylish apartments and three conference rooms capable of handling 110 delegates in theatre style seating.
- later in the year a Mantra Hotel alongside Wollongong’s magnificent WIN Sports & Entertainment Centre and offering 168 suites and conference facilities for 315 delegates in classroom and 280 in banquet mode
- a Best Western Wollongong due for completion in 2008 providing 54 one and two-bedroom apartments and a small meeting space
- an exciting new adventure activity with the opening next month of the Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk, an elevated steel canopy walk through virgin rainforest with stunning views from the top of the Illawarra Escarpment, and
- construction underway on a new hotel and conference centre on 8000 square metres at the University of Wollongong’s Innovation Campus
