Tourism Wollongong will receive $499,700 from the Federal Goverment to assist in marketing and the development of signage along the spectacular Grand Pacific Drive.
Following on from the application lodged in June 2006, Tourism Wollongong were offered the full funding assistance requested under AusIndustry's Australian Tourism Development Program for the 'Grand Pacific Drive - Sydney to Wollongong and beyond' project, announced by the Hon Fran Bailey MP, Minister for Small Business and Tourism, on Friday 1st December 2006.
The project will focus on development and marketing of the 140 km scenic drive along the NSW south coast, encompassing the Royal National Park, Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama, Shoalhaven and linking 'beyond' to the Southern Highlands and Canberra.
Greg Binskin, Tourism Wollongong's General Manager, said " I would like to thank the Federal Government and Liberal Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, for believing in the vision and strategy in such a competitive environment for Federal funding".
"It will be a great boost to the existing marketing activity and help grow tourism in the region", Greg Binskin said.
The announcement coincides with the first anniversary of the reopening of Lawrence Hargrave Drive and launch of the Sea Cliff Bridge, on 11th December.
