There is plenty going on this month to keep us busy here at Tourism Wollongong with famils, trade/consumer shows, Partner Program renewals and the much anticipated opening of the Southern Gateway Centre!
The new Partner Program has seen our membership expand and Tourism Wollongong would like to welcome all our new members. We look forward to working with you in 2009/10.
On another note, I would like to acknowledge John Vander of Articles Fine Art Gallery on his 40th anniversary show. John has been a great supporter of the local tourism industry and we would like to congratulate him on his achievements.

With all the finalists now announced for the 2009 South Coast Tourism Awards, the countdown is on to the big night! The Awards Gala Dinner will be held on Wednesday August 12, 2009 at the Novotel Wollongong Northbeach. Tickets are on sale now for $125 + GST per person. Congratulations to City Beach Function Centre |
Congratulations! to all Tourism Wollongong members who made it through as finalists and winners at the 2009 Restaurant & Catering NSW Awards!
City Beach Function Centre scooped the pool at the Restaurant & Catering Awards for Excellence for the South Coast Region. The Function Centre took out a major award in being named the region's caterer of the year, best wedding caterer and an honorable mention for function centre caterer.
This award recognise the achievement made by these operators' in “continuing to deliver the promise” through their high standard of service and guest facilities.

Grand Pacific Drive showcased at NRMA Travel Expos |
Grand Pacific Drive exhibited at the recent NRMA Travel expos held in Newcastle, Sydney and Wollongong during July. With over 10,000 NRMA members and non-members attending the expos, it was encouraging to see so many people familiar with the drive with positive feedback being received all round!
Grand Pacific Drive will be participating in several other consumer shows later this year at the Penrith Caravan & Camping Show, The Canberra Times Home, Leisure, Caravan, 4WD & Camping Show and Sydney Adventure and Backpacker expo.

Funding for Maldon-Dombarton Rail Link |
The Rudd Government has committed a further $3 million to progress to the next stage of assessing the feasibility of a rail line between Maldon and Port Kembla via Dombarton. The aim of the Maldon-Dombarton rail link project is to ensure the efficient movement of goods into and out of our ports, in order to boost our export performance and economy productivity going forward.
The work is expected to commence later in the year and will take about 18 months to complete.
