From the manager's desk...

Greetings from Tourism Wollongong.

As the festive season creeps upon us, we welcome in November and its a busy month ahead with events such as MS Sydney to the Gong bike ride heading our way, Viva la Gong and the Cellarbrations NSW PGA Championships being held in the city.

Later this month Grand Pacific Drive and many of our Tourism Partners will be vying for top awards in this year’s NSW Tourism Awards to be held at Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour on November 19.

The Tourism Wollongong Annual General Meeting will be held in the Premiers Room at the WIN Sports and Entertainment Centre on November 24. I look forward to seeing you there to meet and network with our new Tourism Partners.

On a sad note was the news that two “champions” for tourism in our region, Peter Hilton, former Public Relations Manager of Novotel Wollongong Northbeach and one of Futureworld’s driving forces, Dr Pat Mowbray, recently passed away. Our thoughts go out to their friends and families as we extend our deepest sympathies.

Until next month
Greg Binskin
General Manager

NSW Tourism Award finalists

NSW Tourism Award finalists

The finalists have been announced for the 2009 NSW Tourism Awards and we are very proud to say that Grand Pacific Drive has been selected in the Tourism Marketing category! In a great coup for the region many of our Tourism Partners have also been recognised including Dolphin Watch Cruises – Jervis Bay, Skydive the Beach, Bellachara Boutique Hotel, The Lagoon Seafood Restaurant, Coolangatta Estate , Hotel Ibis Wollongong  and the World Youth Day - Days in the Diocese.

It’s a wonderful testament to the quality tourism products the South Coast has to offer and we look forward to the gala dinner. Best of luck to all the finalists.

2009/10 summer Wollongong Tourism Passport

2009/10 summer Wollongong Tourism Passport

Get in quick for your chance to be included in the Wollongong Tourism Passport Summer edition. This popular booklet has been a big hit and we look forward to continuing it’s success. Targeted to visiting friends and relatives, the “Tourism Passport” has its key distribution through the Visitor Information Centre at the Southern Gateway Centre at Bulli Tops. It’s beautifully produced and is full of incredible promotional offers – there is approximately $1100 worth of product discounts across Wollongong and beyond, making it a valuable publication to be part of.

For further information about becoming involved with the Summer Tourism Passport, please contact Vera Cvetkoski or Kate Chapman.

GPD consumer show success!

GPD consumer show success!

The Grand Pacific Drive message continues to be heard loud and clear across the country and November holds many more opportunities to spread the good word! The Canberra Times Spring Home and Leisure Show afforded great exposure for GPD across the weekend of October 23-25.

The Sydney Backpacker and Adventure Expo on November 7-8 is another avenue to keep GPD top of mind across all markets, and following up straight after that we head to the annual Tourism Australia China Mission from November 8-11 ensuring a voice in the international marketplace.

The aim of attending trade and consumer shows is to raise the awareness of Grand Pacific Drive, Wollongong and the greater South Coast. We feel our continued presence at these events is an essential step in the promotion and recognition of this beautiful region.
