From the manager's desk..

Welcome to the new financial year for 2008/2009! It’s officially winter and the cold breeze is blowing in but rest assured the weather won’t dampen our mood or our busy schedule, with a multitude of trade events, familiarisations and membership renewals underway.

The highlight of July is the festivities surrounding World Youth Day 08 as we welcome 2,000 international pilgrims that will call the region home for the event. Don't forget the Days of the Dioceses 10 - 13 July 2008. Click here for more details.

On a sad note, a former long serving Tourism Wollongong staff member Michael Kelly recently passed away. The Tourism Wollongong Board and staff pay their respects and offer condolences to Michael's family and friends.

Until next month,
Greg Binskin
General Manager

New APT Grand Pacific Drive day tour!

Grand Pacific Drive, in partnership with APT are proud to welcome a luxury coach sightseeing tour taking in parts of the NSW South Coast and Southern Highlands.

Grand Pacific Drive - becoming an internationally renowned drive!

Over the June long weekend, we took the opportunity, prior to ATE to showcase the latest A list tourism products to the International Regional Directors of Tourism NSW. The team represents international markets; Japan, North Asia, South Asia, New Zealand, UK/Europe and North America.

They experienced Harley rides along Grand Pacific Drive and inspected some of our newest properties; Medina Executive Wollongong and Hotel Ibis Wollongong. A special seafood lunch at The Lagoon Restaurant  was followed by a 'tour to the edge’ at Illawarra Fly Tree Top Walk and a browse through the Bradman Museum of Cricket in the town of Bowral.

What better way to further strengthen our relationship with Tourism NSW, showing the international team first hand what the region has to offer.

Seeing is believing!

Seeing is believing!

I would like to extend a very big thank you to the members of Tourism Wollongong who continue to support the familiarisation program of Grand Pacific Drive. In June we hosted four familiarisations, showcasing a diverse range of accommodation properties, local attractions and activities, a variety of restaurants and venues within the region.

We welcomed VIP agents from Thailand and Abhilasha Jain; Tourism Australia Manager, India. Abhilasha had two exciting days in the region, experiencing the thrill of sky diving, Harley rides, taking in the views at Bald Hill, Sea Cliff Bridge and Illawarra Fly Tree Top Walk and sampling the fine foods of the region at Diggies and Ghedias Indian Restaurant.
