From the manager’s desk

Wollongong reached a significant milestone in the history of the regions tourism industry on August 22 with the turning of the sod for the $7.7 million Southern Gateway Centre. This will be an important piece of infrastructure for the development of tourism in Wollongong. We are looking forward to seeing this project come to fruition.

Last month Tourism NSW hosted a Focus on India workshop for suppliers interested in learning more about this emerging Indian market, we were also fortunate enough in hosting a post Focus on India Agent famil. Tourism Wollongong is now looking forward to working closer with the agents to grow this emerging market.

Let’s continue to work together to keep the momentum going.

Until next month,
Greg Binskin
General Manager

Work begins on new tourism shopfront

Work begins on new tourism shopfront

Work has begun on the new shop front to the city – the $7.7 million Southern Gateway Centre at Bulli Tops – with expected completion late next year. Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells officially launched the project with a sod-turning ceremony on August 22.

Funded by Wollongong City Council, the Federal Government, the IAC, Mid-Link Australia and the State Government, the complex will house a state of the art Visitor Information Centre, restaurant and an Aboriginal tourist attraction.

An estimated 200 000 visitors per year are expected to stop at the site and get 'first hand' information on Wollongong and the South Coast.
