We look forward to welcoming you to the Members' Cocktail Party this week.

A reminder to all Members who have registered and paid for guests to attend, the event will commence at 6.30pm.

Registration was essential for this event and your name will be marked off at the door.

The Countdown to the Arrival of Black Caviar is On - See her at Royal Randwick this Saturday.

This Saturday sees the world’s best race horse, Black Caviar, compete at Royal Randwick in her very first, and possibly only, Sydney appearance as she races in the highly anticipated Group 1 Darley T J Smith Stakes (1200m) on David Jones Australian Derby Day.

To celebrate Black Caviar’s record attempt at 12 consecutive wins from 12 starts and her maiden race outside of Victoria, the ATC is pulling out all the stops - with special transport, limited ticketing offers, official Black Caviar memorabilia and fantastic spectator promotions.

Black Caviar memorabilia available on David Jones Australian Derby Day includes flags – free for the first 2,500 people through the gates; lapel ribbons ($2); and a Black Caviar customised photo booth where participants will walk away with a photo of them riding Black Caviar, thanks to the miracles of modern technology!

The ATC has also partnered with the Daily Telegraph and Moet & Chandon for a ‘Champagne & Caviar’ online promotion. Readers are invited to submit their responses to “what would you call Black Caviar’s first offspring” at dailytelegraph.com.au for their chance to win the ultimate Champagne & Caviar experience. The winner will receive Champagne Bar hospitality and racecourse entry for two on David Jones Australian Derby Day; access to the mounting yard to watch Black Caviar in her race; photo opportunity with Black Caviar’s trainer Peter Moody; a priceless framed set of Black Caviar’s racing silks; and three magnums of Moet & Chandon.

There are also limited edition 150th AJC Derby fedora hats for only $10 including a souvenir race book.

Col Tuck's Racing Review

The focus of the Sydney Carnival moves to Royal Randwick this Saturday with the historic 150th running of the David Jones AJC Australian Derby. Recent New Zealand Derby and Rosehill Guineas winner Jimmy Choux will start favourite to continue on his winning way whilst Shamrocker will attempt to be the first filly since Research in 1989 to win the Derby.

The Queen of Australian racing Black Caviar is also scheduled to make her well publicised Sydney debut in the Group 1 T J Smith Stakes over 1200m. Some quality rivals have nominated to welcome her to Royal Randwick with Alverta, All Silent, Shoot Out and Hay List amongst the 14 nominations for the race and once again the winner is automatically qualified for the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint. The Group 1 Inglis Sires Produce Stakes is also set down for decision on Saturday and Golden Slipper placegetter Elite Falls is expected to contest the event along with Smart Missile, Fast and Sexy, Aerobatics, Helmut Do You Think and VRC Sire Produce winner Running Tall.

The AJC Heritage Society Exhibition and Fashion

The AJC Heritage Society Exhibition and Fashion

With the help of the AJC Heritage Society, exciting and inspiring stories and images from the past 150 years have been collated for inclusion in the outdoor Exhibition Wall to be displayed over the 3 weeks of Sydney Carnival running from the main pedestrian entrance around the Octagonal Buildings.

The Exhibition wall took over 2 months to complete from inception to implementation and used a variety of mediums such as Racing Magazines, old race books, local archives and lengthy consideration of the large number historical paintings, pictures and prints hanging on the walls of racecourse buildings.

Also witness the designs of the Fashion Technology Students from the Sydney TAFE Institute as they parade throughout the grounds of Royal Randwick on AJC David Jones Derby Day between 12.30pm and 2.30pm. Dressed elegantly in long flowing race day gowns from the Victorian era, the students will create a historic setting for many generations to enjoy.

In addition, and as this is the final year the existing Derby Bar will be used on Derby Day, the AJC Heritage Society thought it appropriate to celebrate by mounting a small exhibition in honor of this great race.

The small exhibition will be located in the entrance way to the Derby Bar for the duration of the day.
