Members' Mail - July 2007

The winds of change.....this month sees us with a new Chairman and a committee vacancy.  Our Chief Executive Tony King also leaves us. 

We congratulate Mr Ross Smyth-Kirk on his appointment as Chairman of the Australian Jockey Club, as a result of the resignation of Mr DC Hall, and wish him well in the Chair.

Mr Mick Doyle  has retired from Committee after 15 years of service.   We wish Mr Hall, Mr Doyle and Mr King success with their future endeavours and thank them for their contribution to the Australian Jockey Club and the Membership Department.  They will be missed.


Committee Vacancy


The following advertisement is appearing in the Public Notices section of the Sydney Morning Herald today, Monday, 2 July.

NOTICE TO MEMBERS

Members are advised that a ballot is to be conducted for the purpose of filling a vacancy existing on the Committee following the retirement of Mr MD Doyle. Mr Doyle stepped down from the Committee in accordance with the AJC Constitutional Rules having completed 15 years of service.

Nominations for the position are therefore called and will be received by the Chief Executive until 4.00 pm on Monday, 16 July 2007, and if required a postal ballot will then be held in accordance with the Constitutional Rules of the Club.

Members wishing to stand for Committee must be Ordinary Members or Life Members of at least five years standing.

Nominations must carry the written consent of the candidate and must be signed by two Members of the Club, being Ordinary Members or Life Members of at least five years standing, entitled to attend and vote at a General Meeting.

With the exception of the Golf Day invitation which should be with you shortly, the invitations to the other events will be forwarded mid August.

Hall of Fame


Two major events combine for the first time...After the success of the Australian Champion Racehorse of the Year Awards, and the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in Melbourne 2006, these two well sought after events will be held in Sydney in 2007. The date for this combined black tie dinner is Thursday 13 September 2007 to be held in the Pavilion at Royal Randwick. Dress Regulations - Gentlemen and Boys 14 years and over


During the non daylight savings period, coats are ON. That means that they must be worn at all times, not just into the Members' area and then placed on the back of chairs!

Once boys turn 14 they must dress to adult standards, collared shirt, smart trousers, tie and a jacket.  No sneakers.  Children who are not dressed accordingly will not be permitted into the Members' area.

Juniors must also be in the company of a responsible adult AT ALL TIMES.

Are now due.  If you haven't paid your subscription, and wish to do so click here.  You may use your last season cards until Saturday 14 July, after which you will not be able to come racing until your fees have been paid.
