Jump onboard with ERA - TAFE Libraries

Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT), Learning Centre currently subscribes to 23 electronic resources 2 of which are via ERA: Consumer Health Complete and the Health and Wellness Resources Centre.

Both of these databases are new to CIT and the ERA process provided an opportunity to look at new electronic resources to support our expanding allied health delivery areas. These databases are well used. Although, there were few savings to be gained we were keen to support this important consortia.

The Learning Centre did investigate procuring 2 of its current subscriptions via the consortia but it did not prove as cost effective as current offers direct with suppliers. Only those 4 products were relevant to CIT’s delivery areas.

Last year the Learning Centre participated in the ERA Online product survey to register our interest in what products we wanted to be part of the next ERA product panel and anticipate seeing some of them represented in the next phase of ERA.

Our message to other TAFE libraries is, jump on board!

Participate in the surveys and product poll so costs can be kept to a minimum for all TAFEs. While realising that there needs to be a balance of getting value for money, a strong TAFE sector representation would lead to an increase in products relevant to the TAFE sector.
