From the manager's desk...

Welcome to the Tourism Wollongong April E-News.

It was great to see our Team and Members getting together at Jamberoo Action Park on Sunday, 22 March to soak up the sun and enjoy time with family and friends before the Easter break. Another great initiative was the commencement of the ‘free shuttle bus’ service to help transport visitors and commuters around Wollongong CBD, easing traffic and assisting people in exploring Wollongong’s attractions.

How many annual leave days are you owed? Tourism Australia has recently launched the ‘No Leave, No Life’ program to help win the work/life battle with more than 123 million annual leave days owing. If we could all consider taking time off, it would help maintain the domestic tourism economy.

On that note, are you due for a short break this Easter? Take advantage of our package deals for Easter long weekend and enjoy a leisurely stay on Grand Pacific Drive.

And remember two important dates in the April calendar; ANZAC Day, Saturday 25 April and Daylight Savings time change on Sunday 5 April where the Aussie east coast needs to put their clock back one hour.

Until next month
Greg Binskin
General Manager

LGA Tourism Conference on Grand Pacific Drive

LGA Tourism Conference on Grand Pacific Drive

More than 200 delegates visited Kiama and traversed along Grand Pacific Drive recently to attend the fifth annual LGA Tourism Conference. The conference was run by the Local Government and Shires Association in partnership with Tourism NSW with a clear direction to increase visitation to regional areas of NSW. It is hoped that by 2016, there will be an additional 23,000 jobs in NSW and a targeted 160.6 million visitor nights.

Grand Pacific Drive’s strategic direction is towards increasing visitation to the region and increasing overnight stays, supporting our hotel industry partners and to name a few; Novotel Wollongong Northbeach, Medina Executive, Ibis Wollongong and the newly branded Sebel Harbourside Kiama.

Jamberoo Fun Day had by all

Jamberoo Fun Day had by all

Tourism Wollongong hosted a day out at Jamberoo Action Park on Sunday, 22 March. The day was filled with smiles and laughs as Tourism Wollongong staff and local operators from within the industry came together and shared rides like the Taipan and Outback Bay. For many it was their first visit since major re-developments were opened.

We thank all those who made it on the day and hope you enjoyed the day as much as the team. The sun was glorious and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day; a big thank you to the staff at Jamberoo Action Park for their assistance and for supporting Tourism Wollongong.
