Tuckometer Report
Feature races on Friday 1 January are the Tattersalls Club Cup (2000m) and the Carrington Stakes (1100m) both at Listed level. Nominal favourite for the Tattersalls Cup will be Rainbow Styling trained by the Hawkes team at Rosehill. Rainbow Styling was successful at Randwick on Villiers day over 2000m and a repeat of that run will see him hard to beat again. Another interesting runner is Zavite trained by Anthony Cummings. Zavite has not raced since running in the Melbourne Cup but tuned up with a barrier trial at Rosehill on 22 December. Other entries for the race include Villiers placegetter Spinney together with Rabbuka and Lyncean Academy.
The Carrington Stakes entries are headed by Bank Robber who was unlucky in the Razor Sharp Handicap at Randwick on Villiers Day together with Prince Braeman and News Alert who ran the quinella in the same race. The race meeting commences at 1.10 with the final event at 5.50 pm.
Congratulations also to the connections of New Zealand visitor Solid Billing who won the Summer Cup. Solid Billing is trained by Craig Ritchie whose father Frank won the 1986 AJC Derby with Bonecrusher amongst many numerous feature wins.
Horses to follow
CABERNET is trained here at Headquarters by Grahame Begg and this three year old filly looked to be well above average in a recent trial but even so, when she became trapped wide without cover when on debut at a recent Midweek fixture, her prospects on the day looked bleak. To go on and score with authority as she did makes her a filly to follow for sure.
LOVE CONQUERS ALL has been mentioned in this space before and it is hoped that we can continue to see him hand in such dominating performances such as that which saw him land many healthy wagers here at Headquarters on Boxing Day. If media reports are proven correct this highly talented three year old is now Gold Coast bound so perhaps we should look for him on Magic Millions day.
LORNE DANCER is a very lightly raced five year old who resumed from a very long injury enforced spell here at Headquarters on Boxing Day and he was defending an unbeaten record on his home track, Royal Randwick. He found one better than him on the day but his will to win was still on show. He was clearly headed by Geared Up well into the straight before he fought back admirably. More ground will suit.
