A baker's dozen for Bart?
After taking out the Caulfield Cup with Viewed and the W.S. Cox Plate with So You Think, master Randwick trainer Bart Cummings is aiming for his 13th Melbourne Cup. He is also aiming for back to back Cups, a feat he hasn’t achieved since Let’s Elope (1991) and Kingston Rule (1990).
Bart has three runners confirmed for the Cup so far. Viewed (58kgs) Roman Emperor (54kgs) and Allez Wonder (50.5kgs). Entered for this Saturday’s Derby Day race meeting Bart has Dandaad and Naval Escort who need to win the Lexus Stakes (previously SAAB Quality) to get into the two mile feature.
Bart’s horses are on fire at the moment, Viewed is likely to have one more run in the Mackinnon Stakes this Saturday, while Roman Emperor and Allez Wonder will not start again until 3pm next Tuesday. Other Sydney horses that are likely starters in this year’s cup are Fiumicino trained by Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes, Zavite trained by Anthony Cummings and Newport trained by Paul Perry.
