Tuckometer Report

Autumn Stars Gear Up

Signs that the 2010 Autumn Carnival is fast approaching were evident at the Randwick Barrier Trials on Friday 15 January. The opening two heats were held on the Course Proper with Flight Stakes runner up Sister Madly prevailing in Heat 1 from Epsom Handicap winner Rock Kingdom and Swift Alliance in third position. Other runners in the heat included Manhattan Rain, Theseo and Occurrence. Heat two was won by the Gai Waterhouse trained Montana Flyer who defeated Seeking Attention and three year old Shellscrape in third position. The overall time for Heat 2 was 46.99 marginally faster than the 47.11 for Heat 1.

Entries for the Doncaster Mile to be run on Saturday 17 April have also closed with over 190 entries received including 2009 winner Vision and Power, 2009 Melbourne Cup winner Shocking, 2009 Cox Plate winner So You Think in addition to Whobegotyou, Heart of Dreams, Weekend Hussler, Theseo, Denman, Trusting and More Joyous.

Horses to follow:-

SUPER CHOICE.  We highlighted this Guy Walter trained horse from Warwick Farm after he had put “the writing on the wall” at his previous start and it is suggested that those of you who profited by his dominating win last Thursday night keep following him. He can derive confidence from the performance and posting back to back winning efforts is far from beyond him.

KABUKI KISS is trained here at Headquarters by Gai Waterhouse and she has only been to the races once so far. After promising plenty at the barrier trials this two year old filly set herself too great a start when she reared on jumping here on 9 January and surrendered her winning chance in the process. Plenty also went wrong in transit after the bad getaway and we can look for her to atone shortly.

BROTHER PATRICK is a three year old in possession of much promise trained by Paul Messara. He recorded very fast overall time in winning his Maiden before he came to town to score with authority here at Headquarters on 9 January. Very few horses can successfully make the step immediately out of Maiden class to win even next start on the Provincial circuit. To come to Randwick directly out of Maiden class and score so impressively is a rarity indeed.

• Forward the voucher to the Membership Department, AJC Locked Bag 3, Randwick, and we will post them out to you, (we would need a week's notice to allow for the vagaries of the post, so too late now for Australia Day to be posted).
