Racing News - the Tuckometer Report
The City Tattersalls Club race meeting at Randwick this Saturday features 3 Listed races the City Tattersalls Club Cup and Lightning Stakes and the Brian Crowley Stakes for Three Year Olds. Metropolitan Handicap runner up Lodge The Deeds will attempt to go one better in City Tattersalls Club Cup whilst a number of other horses are on trial for a trip to Melbourne. Both Hume and Courtney can use this race to pass the first ballot clause for the Melbourne Cup if successful whilst Cape Breton, Nothin' Leica Cat and Common Objective are currently 50th, 55th & 56th respectively in the Order of Entry for the Melbourne Cup and would be eligible for a penalty if they can win the race.
The City Tattersalls Lightning has also drawn together a quality list of nominations including Youthful Jack who won the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes at Randwick during the Autumn, 2009 Missile Stakes winner Teasing, Concorde Stakes winner Friday Creek and Queensland visitor Mr Hornblower whose wins include the 2009 Prime Ministers Cup. The Brian Crowley Stakes nominations include recent Heritage Stakes winner Stryker and Shadow Assassin from the Gai Waterhouse stable. Gai Waterhouse won this race last year with Northern Meteor who subsequently won the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington on Derby day and a number of this years entries will be on trial for the same race.
In addition to the feature races on Saturday the Benchmark Handicap for Three Year Olds over 1600m carries a $100,000 bonus if the winner is nominated for the Inglis Race Series
Members may have noticed a change to some of the restricted race titles in NSW from 1 October with the introduction of Benchmark races replacing Rating races. The system is similar and all horses nominated in NSW were given a Benchmark number to replace their Rating Band number. However in some cases the number may not have changed at all. The main difference being that in a Rating Band race no horse who had a Rating higher than the advertised condition of the race eg Rating 75 was eligible to nominate. However in a Benchmark race eg Benchmark 80 Handicap, a horse who is benchmarked at 80 will be handicapped on 58kg. However horses benchmarked above 80 can now nominate but will be handicapped an additional 0.5kg for each benchmark point above the advertised condition of the race. That means a horse who nominates with a Benchmark rating of 84 would be handicapped on 60kg in a Benchmark
80 race. The usual 2kg allowance for Fillies/Mares in mixed sex races still applies.

A Night of Legends and Early Morning Trackwork

Approximately 300 members and their guests met for drinks and canapes and enjoyed Max Presnell's insightful and entertaining interviews with Ian Craig and Bill Waterhouse at our Night of Legends. It was a great night of stories and catching up with friends.
Early Morning Trackwork was also well attended with around 100 people getting up early to enjoy a light breakfast and see the champion horses, jockeys and trainers going through their paces.
These functions are part of our Carnival celebrations and we look forward to presenting more of these events in the future.
