Col Tuck's Racing Review

Saturday racing at Warwick Farm this week sees the running of the Rosebud Qualifiers for both Two Year Old Colts & Geldings and Fillies over 1100m. These races provide an ideal opportunity for the connections of these horses to earn much needed prize money to avoid a potential ballot from the upcoming Three Year Old feature races commencing with The Rosebud at Randwick on Saturday 6 August.

The "At Sea" Handicap for the open class sprinters will feature the Joe Pride trained Rain Affair attempting to make it 6 wins from 7 starts for popular ATC Member Don Storey. This will be his toughest test to date as entries for the race include quality performers Pressday, Jest Crewsin, Skytrain and Motspur.

Shayne Montgomery - Horses to Follow

STRATFORD is trained by the Hawkes family and was resuming from his spell off the back of a smart barrier trial when the money began to arrive for him from much earlier in the week at Rosehill 16/7. It was still arriving as the starter said “go” and after settling well back early, he raced away late. He’ll win better races.

VALDHEZ is a very well bred three year old from the Kim Waugh stable and was only having his third start in a race when he settled down outside the leader at Rosehill 16/7. Despite facing the breeze throughout he found plenty when asked to improve and he looks just the type who can progress.

WAZN had similar tactics adopted by the Chris Waller stable for his reappearance at Rosehill 16/7 as were adopted at his previous start/win. He was ridden quietly early and then given the chance to finish off strongly. He certainly pleased all concerned by hitting the line with great determination.
