A warm welcome from Wollongong Conference and Events! We look back with great satisfaction at a highly successful 12 months with a 94% growth in business opportunities resulting in $4.5 million in economic benefit to the region and with over $4.4million in pending business.

There has been plenty of conference and event activity in the region including the opening of the new University of Wollongong iC Event Centre, World Youth Day Celebrations and we have more exciting events to come over the next few months.

Wollongong has welcomed a number of new attractions and facilities over the past year including iC Event Centre based at the Innovation Campus, two hotels Medina Executive Wollongong and Best Western Wollongong.

Thousands come to see the Pope but found heaven on earth in Wollongong..

Wollongong was fortunate to host many successful events during the “Days in the Diocese” leading up to World Youth Day (WYD) in Sydney. Our region welcomed over 1,600 registered homestay pilgrims from across the world who experienced the Australian life first hand, enjoying the “Everything Aussie” festival, WYD Commissioning Vigil Mass, Sunday Mass at local Parishes and experiencing the regions many beautiful attractions.

Showing off Wollongong to 100 million people Worldwide....
As part of adventurer Charley Boorman’s documentary series “By Any Means” which will screen early next year, the final stretch in this new series will feature the impressive scenery of the Illawarra and Grand Pacific Drive. The documentary is expected to attract audiences of up to 100 million people world wide!

Towradgi Beach Hosts the NSW Inflatable Rescue Boat Championships....
The NSW IRB Championships held at Towradgi mid July were a great success with surf clubs from all across the state competing for top honours. It certainly made for a fantastic weekend at one of our stunning surf beaches.

Getting underground..
The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy held their New Leaders Conference in July.  There was plenty of time for business with innovative talks, a welcome function, National Student Mining competition and a black tie event.

Now onto the Football field..
Football fans were thrilled to attend the Sydney FC vs Wellington Hyundai A-League game at WIN Stadium during August. In the ongoing efforts to obtain an A-League licence for this football loving region, representatives from the Football Federation of Australia were in attendance and no doubt impressed by the strong business and sporting community support. We wish the South Coast Football A-League Bid Committee all the best in their endeavours.

Viva la Gong returns in October! This unique Arts and Community festival is shaping up as the very best to date. The city of Wollongong shines even more brightly during festival time, with open air party nights, orchestral concerts, dance displays, live theatre, spoken word performances and exciting ticketed and free activities for the kids.

Book early to see some amazing Australian talents such as Katie Noonan and Tim Freedman, as well as some esteemed world music performers, including the unforgettable Prayer Bells. Don’t miss exciting local performers Circus Monoxide and a wonderful array of street performers.

Rugby League World Cup at WIN Stadium!

France and Fiji will fight it out for their shot at the thirteenth Rugby League World Cup at WIN Stadium Wollongong on Saturday 1st November. Ten nations will be playing for 2008 World Cup glory and Wollongong is pleased to be hosting one of the eighteen matches. Watch these two proud nations battle it out in this Centenary Year of Rugby League in Australia. It is an event not to be missed so buy your tickets now!

All those in attendance had an unforgettable experience with a scenic flight, Harley Davidson rides, visit to Jamberoo Action Park and a mini showcasing event to meet with regional operators. The famil was deemed a success with lasting impressions of what our region has on offer.
